Brief summary
Glycated hemoglobin is the generally accepted standard method for assessment of glycemic compensation. With the advent of continuous glucose monitoring, the role of glycemic variability in the compensation of diabetes mellitus and its micro- and macrovascular complications has been extensively discussed. Many ways of glycemic curve variability measurement have been proposed over the years. Principle methods for glycemic variability measurement, their advantages and limitations, helpful visual schemes are presented in this article. Different methods for assessing the variability of glycemia are structured and classified depending on the technical capabilities and issues, which doctors and researchers may encounter.
