Brief summary
The incorporation of radionuclides during their inhalation into the human body remains an urgent problem in emergency situations at nuclear industry facilities. Complexones based on diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid Ca-DTPA and Zn-DTPA have proven efficacy when administered intravenously. The development of a promising direction for the inhalation administration of complexones requires a comparative pharmacokinetic study of these drugs. The established pharmacokinetic parameters of Ca-DTPA after intratracheal administration to rats indicated a rapid and complete intake of the drug from the lungs into systemic circulation, preferential distribution in blood plasma and low penetration into tissues, as well as rapid excretion from the body. These features may determine the preference for inhaled use of Ca-DTPA for the decorporation of radionuclides from the lungs in comparison with Zn-DTPA.
