Morphological study of the pulmonary artery 1.5 years after radiofrequency denervation in a patient with idiopathic primary pulmonary hypertension

Brief summary

The article presents a clinical case of the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension by the method of catheter radiofrequency pulmonary artery denervation. A histological and immunohistochemical study of the vessel wall in the ablation zone was performed 1.5 years after the operation. Morphological analysis showed that the main effect of the ablation procedure is fibrosis of the pulmonary artery wall with a loss of expression of tyrosine hydroxylase, an enzyme of the sympathoadrenal system, while the density of nerve fibers in fibrosed perivascular fatty tissue does not change, which does not exclude reinnervation.
