Possibilities of bariatric surgery in the treatment of patients with morbid obesity and chronic stage 5 kidney disease (case report)

Brief summary

The article presents a case report of the surgical treatment of two patients with morbid obesity and chronic stage 5 kidney disease as preparation for the subsequent kidney transplantation. Both of them received renal replacement therapy for more than a year and were on the waiting list for kidney transplantation. After necessary training aimed at the correction of comorbidities, the laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy was undergone for both patients. The choice of methods of operation was determined by the pathogenetic reason of the intervention and the pathology of the kidneys. After 3 months, the E patient?s weight loss amounted to 22 kg, another one of the patient Y. amounted to 25 kg. Lasting weight loss, improving the efficiency of renal replacement therapy, prevention and correction of type 2 diabetes, normalization of blood pressure, all of that allow us to consider laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy as an effective method of preparing kidney transplant patients with morbid obesity and chronic kidney disease stage 5.
