Brief summary

The presence of pseudoexfoliation syndrome (PEX) predisposes to the development of different intra- and postoperative complications during phacoemulsification. Objective: To study the frequency of primary fibrosis of the posterior capsule in patients with PEX. Materials and methods. In study, 1010 patients who underwent phacoemulsification were examined. The presence of fibrosis of the posterior capsule was evaluated intraoperatively, before the implantation of the intraocular lens. Results. Primary posterior capsular fibrosis was significantly more common in the PEX group (p = 0.034). Conclusion. In group with PEX primary fibrosis is significantly more frequent. The choice of tactics depends on its severity, localization, the presence of concomitant changes (narrow pupil, zonular weakness), as well as the preferences of the surgeon.

Key words
