Brief summary

The problem of the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of local recurrence of rectal cancer after suffering a primary treatment is one of the most relevant to the present. Despite the multidisciplinary approach to the disease, the frequency of local recurrence remains high. Nodal metastasis is one of the major causes of local recurrence of rectal cancer. Existing methods of preoperative staging of the tumor process rectum do not have adequate sensitivity and specificity for the assessment of regional metastasis, suggesting the need to find new methods of diagnosis, identification of risk factors and poor prognosis with respect to the lateral metastasis in colorectal cancer, as well as a more differentiated approach to choice of treatment policy for rectal cancer.

Key words

rectal cancer, recurrence, lymphogenous metastasis, lymph nodes
