Brief summary

Results of evaluation of cerebral metabolic changes and correlation interdependence with neuropsychological profile of the patients with vascular, neurodegenerative and mixed etiology of cognitive impairment were presented in the article. It was established that the patients with Alzheimer's disease characterized by decrease of creatine, glutamine/glutamate level and increase of lactate level in the anterior part of cingulate gyrus, reduction of N-acetylaspartate, creatine, glutamine/glutamate in the middle part of cingulate, as well as decrease of concentrations of N-acetylaspartate, creatine, glutamine/glutamate and elevation of inositol level in the posterior cingulate gyrus. Patients with vascular dementia were characterized by decrease of creatine level and increase of lactate, choline concentration in anterior cingulate gyrus, reduction of N-acetylaspartate, creatine, glutamine/glutamate and increase of choline level in the middle cingulate, as well as low concentration of N-acetylaspartate, creatine, glutamine/glutamate and high level of choline in posterior part of the cingulate gyrus. Levels of N-acetylaspartate and glutamine/glutamate were significantly lower for the patients with mixed dementia than in both of the above groups of the patients, the level of inositol in the anterior cingulate was reduced and the concentration of choline in the middle cingulate was higher compared with the patients with Alzheimer's disease, and the remaining metabolic parameters of the posterior cingulate gyrus had an intermediate value. There were significant correlations between cingulate metabolic changes and severity of cognitive impairment.

Key words
