Brief summary
We performed a prospective cross-sectional study of all cases of adult (aged 16 and older) acute poisonings in Yekaterinburg. The goal was to reveal the difference in the pattern of main toxic agents and intentions between the patients who were discharged from the ambulances, those who were hospitalized, and those who died on scene. Opioids, pharmaceuticals and carbon monoxide were the most frequent agents in the pattern of patients treated in the ambulance service only. Among the hospitalized patients, pharmaceuticals, alcohols and caustics were most common. People who died on scene were most frequently poisoned with alcohols, opioids and carbon monoxide. In total, 29% of the patients were left on scene by the ambulances, of whom 70% were poisoned with opioids and treated wish naloxone.
