Brief summary

Meta-analysis of literature concerning herd immunity against avian influenza is presented in this review. Sixty one papers on the subject were retrieved from Russian Science Citation Index, Pubmed, and Scopus, including 56 in English, 4 – in Russian, and one – in Chinese. Features of avian influenza viruses were described, including A/H7N9 influenza virus that caused recently outbreak among Chinese population. We described levels of herd immunity against different avian influenza viruses and showed situation in Russia. WHO criteria for conducting of serologic examinations were analyzed, as well as criteria for retrospective serologic confirmation of cases of human infection with avian influenza viruses. We also described methods of carrying out of serologic examinations, kinetics of producing of antibodies against avian influenza viruses in human, risk factors of human infection with avian influenza.

Key words

population immunity, human population, avian influenza, H5N1, H7N9, H9N2, seroprevalence.
