Brief summary

Platelets a nuclear-free blood cells involved in the various process: regeneration of damaged tissues, the development of inflammatory, immune and allergic responses. However, their main function – providing primary hemostasis, an important protective response that prevents blood loss vascular lesions. Currently methods allow research each step in the process of participation of platelet clot formation. Diagnosis of platelet disorders requires platelet function testing, studies often aided by the quantitative analysis of receptors by flow cytometry and electron microscopy. Platelet function testing offers the potential to tailor antiplatelet therapy for individual patients. This review paper summarizes the key characteristics of platelet function tests available.

Key words

platelets, receptors, hemostasis, aggregation
